Best practice recommendations for physical activity to prevent falls in older adults

Compiled in conjunction with Prince of Wales Hospital and the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, this report shows the benefits of exercise in preventing falls in older populations. The report recommends highly challenging balance training to prevent falls in community settings, and details what an effective program should entail.

This report was prepared for the Sax Institute which aims to build partnerships between researchers, health policy and service delivery agencies for better health in NSW, Australia. The NSW Health Department have now supported a follow-up project evaluating the extent to which these guidelines are being followed. It is hoped that this project will see the establishment of an accreditation system for exercise classes and training. Read more about our work in falls prevention and ageing.
