This paper presents a new clinical resource for clinicians working with people with acquired brain impairment (ABI) called the Psychological database for Brain Impairment Treatment Efficacy (PsycBITE TM). This database was developed to help clinicians evaluate and implement evidence based psychological interventions for people with ABI and is freely available on the Internet (http://www.psycbite.med.usyd.edu.au). PsycBITE TM aims to facilitate clinical decision making by providing ratings of methodological quality of research reports. Research designs used to evaluate aphasia treatment are discussed, including randomised controlled trials and single case experimental design studies. Clinicians need to be aware of the level of evidence in research reports to plan treatment for people with aphasia and their social networks.
