Parliamentary Breakfast: Australia's Role in Tackling Global Health Threats

A parliamentary breakfast, hosted by The George Institute for Global Health and the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer, will be held on Tuesday, 29th July 2025 at Parliament House, Canberra.
The event, titled "Leading and Learning: Australia’s role in accelerating action to tackle the global health threat of non-communicable diseases and mental health" will address the ongoing challenge of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which remain the leading causes of illness and death both in Australia and worldwide.
Date: Tuesday, 29 July
Time: 8am - 11am AEST
Venue: Dame Enid Lyons Alcove, Parliament House, Canberra
Ahead of the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health in September 2025, the breakfast will highlight effective examples of collaborative, cross-sector partnerships that are achieving positive outcomes in the prevention and management of NCDs in our region.
Attendees will have the opportunity to network with policymakers and experts, learn about innovative approaches, and contribute to shaping Australia's role in advancing global NCD and mental health efforts. The program includes presentations from global health experts, such as Dr. Sonia McCarthy, Principal Health Specialist, DFAT, Dr. Cary Adams, and other Australian and international health leaders, who will discuss opportunities to drive new commitments to address the increasing burden of NCDs worldwide.
