Senator Richard Di Natale - Leader of the Australian Greens
Dr Richard Di Natale is the leader of the Australian Greens. He was elected to the federal parliament in 2010 and re-elected in 2016. He was the first Greens’ first Victorian Senator. His portfolios include health, multiculturalism and sport. Prior to entering parliament, Richard was a general practitioner and public health specialist. He worked in Aboriginal health in the Northern Territory, on HIV prevention in India and in the drug and alcohol sector. His key health priorities include preventative health, public dental care and responding to the health impacts of climate change.
Richard's achievements in parliament so far include securing almost $5 billion towards Medicare-funded dentistry, winning a campaign to divest $250 million worth of tobacco stocks from the Future Fund, and spearheading campaigns into many issues of public significance such as dying with dignity, medicinal cannabis, and drug law reform. He is the co-convenor of the Parliamentary Friends for Drug Policy and Law Reform, the Parliamentary Friends of West Papua, the Parliamentary Friends of Medicine and the Parliamentary Friends of Multiculturalism.
Professor Bruce Neal – Deputy Executive Director, The George Institute, Australia
Professor Bruce Neal is a Professor of Medicine at UNSW Sydney and Chair of the Australian Division of World Action on Salt and Health. Professor Neal is a UK-trained physician who has 20 years research experience in the clinical, epidemiological, and public health fields with a focus on heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Professor Neal has a longstanding interest in the environmental determinants of high blood pressure and the potential for changes in the food supply to deliver health gains. His work has been characterised by its focus on collaboration, quantitation, translation and impact.
Professor Neal holds professorial appointments at UNSW Sydney, Imperial College London and an honorary appointment at the University of Sydney. He has published some 400 scientific papers and in 2017 was identified by Thomson Reuters as one of ‘The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds’, an acknowledgement provided to just 3000 researchers across all disciplines, worldwide.
