Heart Health Research Center launched The Winter School in Practical Research Methods
The Heart Health Research Center, a joint venture between The George Institute, China and Cardio Union, has launched a practical research methods winter school delivered through a series of courses over two days.
With the aim of building a doctor’s research capacity, world-class cardiovascular experts delivered a series of lectures and interactive workshops. The course provided an excellent opportunity for research knowledge sharing, information exchange and networking with international authorities. 34 doctors from different hospitals attended the course and expressed their satisfaction.
“The training course was rationally designed and quite practical. As a junior doctor, I really appreciated the opportunity to learn from international authorities. Apart from delivering the lectures, they were willing to listen carefully and address the practical problems we encounter in thinking about doing research within our daily work. The suggestions they gave were quite useful. We were asked to present a practice exercise in outlining a research topic, which was quite interesting and different from other courses that I attended previously,” said Doctor Hu.
The Heart Health Research Center (HHRC) was founded jointly by The George Institute, China and Cardio Union in late 2016. With the mission of addressing the growing burden of cardiovascular disease in China and around the world, the new business entity provides research services to deliver efficient, high quality and impactful research for customers focused on clinical, population and healthcare services in the field of cardiovascular disease.
As one of the first business activities conducted by the HHRC, the course was structured to contain a combination of both didactic lectures and interactive learning sessions.
“We structured the curriculum from the student’s perspective, focusing on what students truly want to obtain in getting started in research, through a combination of structured interactive sessions which also provided them with an opportunity to network with international authorities,” said Professor Craig Anderson, co-director of HHRC and executive director of The George Institute, China. “This approach separates us from similar training courses.”
