Dr Amanda Siriwardana is a PhD candidate at the George Institute for Global Health and a Nephrologist. Amanda has undertaken clinical work across several Nephrology units including Royal North Shore Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, St George Hospital, Wollongong Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord Repatriation General Hospital. She gained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Adult Medicine (Nephrology) in 2018. She currently works as a Renal Supportive Care Fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Amanda’s research interests are in the management of elderly patients with chronic kidney disease, spanning from early stage kidney disease to end-stage kidney failure. Her research involves observational studies to better understand survival in this age-group and the factors that influence survival. She is greatly interested in decision-making among elderly chronic kidney disease patients relating to treatment pathways, including patient/carer experiences and the factors that influence these decisions. She is also interested in improving research methodology among this age-group of chronic kidney disease patients, through high quality prospective observational studies and novel designs such as pragmatic research techniques. Overall, her broad clinical and research interests are in better understanding and improving the care of elderly patients with chronic kidney disease.
