A sex-disaggregated analysis of the Adjunctive Corticosteroid Treatment in Critically ill patients with septic shock (ADRENAL) trial

Aim: To determine the sex-disaggregated clinical, economic and long-term outcomes of the effects of corticosteroids for treating critically ill patients with septic shock.

Methodology: An extended, direct-patient follow-up and data linkage study of patients enrolled in ADRENAL.

We will merge the ADRENAL study data for approximately 1900 ADRENAL participants from 28 ICUs in New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland (QLD) with state administrative health databases including the inpatient episode databases and emergency department databases in NSW and QLD. The time horizon for this study will be from the time of randomisation to six-months.
