"Smart Diet” Technology Development and Application

Diet is the most important controllable risk factor for chronic diseases. Due to complex dietary patterns across China, there is currently a lack of effective technology to assess the nutritional intake of the population and provide guidance accordingly.

There have been proven technology for acquisition and monitoring of exercise information in China and abroad. As for dietary information, however, the collection is relatively difficult. The western cuisine has a fairly uniform menu, so it is relatively easy to develop technology of this kind. But the Chinese cuisine, with diverse varieties, lacks uniform recipes. So there is no corresponding technology at present.

By developing image recognition and nutrient quantification technology for Chinese cuisine, and applying the previous exercise information mobile technology, it will be of great significance to help people “eat healthily and exercise scientifically” and to effectively prevent and contain cardiovascular disease in the information age.
