Dr Anne-Marie Eades highlights the critical role that women in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities provide
In this NHMRC video, Dr Anne-Marie Eades discusses ways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to better manage their own health.
Visiting a health professional at the onset of illness, health maintenance, improved self-management and an appreciation of their extended family and community caring responsibilities are all paramount.
Dr Eades, a UNSW Scientia Fellow with The George Institute, used her Postgraduate Scholarship from the NHMRC to identify the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have in communities.
Dr Eades says she would like to see policy and funding for programs to support these women and the informal support systems they provide.
