Launch of NIHR Global Health Research Centre on Non-Communicable Diseases and Environmental Change
Low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) face dual, intertwined challenges of a rapidly growing burden of non-communicable diseases and the existential threat of global environmental change. In addition, health systems in LMICs face specific challenges in delivering high-quality, equitable services for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) prevention and care, especially for marginalised populations most impacted by environmental change.
The George Institute for Global Health announced the establishment of NIHR Global Health Research Centre on non-Communicable diseases and environmental change in collaboration with Imperial College London. The launch event was held on November 17 in New Delhi with presentations by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The Centre is aimed to tackle the dual challenges of a rapidly growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and the threat of global environmental change in LMICs.
Apart from presentations, the session had multisectoral panel discussions and NIHR policy talks by bringing together researchers, funders, community representatives, public health practitioners, policymakers and thought leaders to introduce the Centre's mission.
